Transformative Technologies in the Macroeconomy: The Challenges of Regulating Robots, AI and Big Data
How do Robots, Artificial Intelligence and Big Data affect firm dynamics? Market economies are becoming disrupted by new technology adoptions: robots, artificial intelligence and use of big data to improve their efficiency and market share. The objective of this project is to understand how these ...
Molecular organisation of inhibitory synapses in genetic epilepsies
Alterations in molecular structure of synapses are common in many neurological and disorders. Using super-resolution microscopy we will follow single proteins at synapses, in real time with resolution of 20 nm, to examine how molecular architecture of synapses changes in genetic epilepsies.
Single-component organic solar cells
Organic semiconductors are an attractive solution for solar cells that are low-cost and environmentally sustainable. This project will employ time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to understand the charge generation process in solar cell material that are designed for intrinsic charge generation.
Critical minerals and the role of India-Australia partnership in global energy transition: exploring industrial development, risks and opportunities.
Set in the backdrop of the India-Australia critical minerals investment partnership, this project will identify and examine the factors that influence the energy transition and industrial and economic growth and development of both countries.
Engineered mesoporous silica nanoparticles loaded with natural bioactive molecules for breast cancer therapy
Silica nanoparticles afford excellent carriers for drug loading and ligand conjugation. This project will design nanoformulations loaded with bioactive molecules. Engineered particles conjugated with ligands/antibodies will achieve high efficacy of nature derived molecules for breast cancer therapy.
Using machine learning APIs in modern applications
Machine Learning (ML) APIs are provided to be incorporated into various applications. This project aims to understand how ML APIs are used in modern applications and innovate novel design principles and programming abstractions that guide designing ML APIs and simplify applications using ML APIs.
Developing Decision Support Tool for Optimal Biorefineries and Bioeconomy towards a Net-Zero Economy
In line with decarbonisation efforts of industries and governments globally to achieve net-zero emissions , the project aims to develop a novel multi-objective sustainability-led optimization-based decision support tool for exploring and evaluating the potential of biomass-based refinery systems.
Loss, gain and altered function of GABA-A receptors in genetic epilepsies – Effects of Shisa7 modulation
Neuroreceptors are small pores, often found at synapses, that enable neuronal communication in the brain. This project will combine patch-clamp electrophysiology and molecular modelling to better understand how genetic mutations found in neuroreceptors affect their function and cause diseases.
How Gig Economy Workers Cope With Job Ambiguity
Gig economy workers face challenges because their work is mediated via algorithms. They lack supervisors to guide them and so are left on their own when solving problems. We aim to study how workers deal with and overcome such ambiguity in their jobs, and offer insights into this growing issue.

An Investigation into Social and Cultural Barriers to Adoption of Hygiene Products by Menstruating Women in India and Australia
Menstruation is a common experience for women but also a taboo topic. Many myths about menstruation exist, and most cast menstruation in a negative light. Better understanding how people think about the menstrual cycle should illuminate barriers women face in personal and professional space.
