Shazia holds master and bachelor’s degrees in economics with a subsidiary focus on Statistics and Mathematics. She attended Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. Previously she has worked in research roles at the New York University and the Delhi School of Economics. As an undergraduate student, she also served as a full-time member of the Sexual Harassment cell, ICC, at the Aligarh Muslim University. She has been an active advocate for minority rights and gender issues in India. Her broad interest in energy policy and a background in economics motivated her to join the prestigious Ph.D. program at the UQ-IIT Delhi Academy of Research.
This project will explore the concept of Just Transitions and apply it to India's coal regions. It will identify the range of local and regional enablers and barriers that will shape India's future decarbonisation pathways. It will also consider possible economic futures for India's coal belt.
