Prafful Kumar Khoba

About Prafful

Prafful was born and brought up in Delhi, India’s capital. He has a bachelor’s from Delhi Technological University, and a master’s from IIT Roorkee, both in Electronics and Communication Engineering. Before joining UQIDAR, he was an assistant research fellow, working with the vehicle mobility team in CVIT, IIIT-H, under the supervision of Dr. C.V. Jawahar and Dr. Ravi Kiran S.

Prafful has an inclination to choose a real-world problem that has a social impact. In his Master’s, he developed a machine that got appreciation from the Ministry of Education and won an InterCollege Innovation Competition. Also, he has filed a provisional patent for the same. His research interest is in the amalgamation of computer vision and machine learning. Many of today’s vision algorithms are very successful in controlled environments. Real-world environments, however, cannot be controlled and are most often dynamic. Since most computer vision algorithms are limited to a particular situation, they lack robustness in the context of dynamically changing environments. The need to develop algorithms that can generalize well in multiple domains is of utmost; therefore, my Ph.D. topic is domain generalization.

Since his sophomore year, Prafful has been interested in teaching his peers the subject which he relishes the most. His career aspiration is to become a professor since an academic career offers unique opportunities to mentor students through teaching and research advising. A decade down the lane, he see’s myself as a reputed researcher working in this field with the younger minds of coming years.

Adversarial Machine Learning

In this project we will explore adversarial attacks on deep neural networks for the visual recognition tasks. We will be focusing on the practical attacks in which the adversary causes large unrestricted perturbation in an image, thus managing to fool both the model as well as the human observer.
